Weight Up
Aug 8, 2009
not a breast pumpAt first, we noticed he wasn't pooping enough. Then we noticed that after two weeks, he hadn't gotten back up to his birth weight yet. That's when we realized that Emery wasn't getting enough food. A lactation consultant at the Breat Feeding Resource center helped us out a lot. She said that eventually, Emery's mouth will be strong enough to get all that he needs, but for now we will have to supplement. So we follow up each breastfeeding session with either pumped milk, formula, or some combination of the two.
emery asleep in his recliner. After only two days of doing this, Emery was back up to his birth weight of 9 pounds 13 ounces. And only five days after that, he was up to 10 pounds 7 ounces! Go Emery! Our next doctor appointment is on Tuesday, so we'll see how much he weighs then.
Meanwhile, we are doing what we always do. Going on a few photo shoots, staring at the baby, and just hanging out. I'm posting a video so that you know just what it's like to stare at Emery. He makes the strangest faces sometimes! This video doesn't show the sheer variety of crazy faces in his repertoire, but he's doing some weird thing with sticking his tongue out.
Also, there's some bathing footage in here. Can't wait to pull this out when he's older. And just so you know, there's about one minute of staring and about two minutes of bathing. This doesn't go on forever:-)
